neil young: cortez the killer

Before Sunday shyly arrives with its threat of tortured failure and betrayal, I want to give up a little honesty. This is for Beer and Matt and Nathan and Brushback - who I very nearly forgot to mention in my inebriated state - and Jon and a whole lot of others. Keep On Keeping On, motherf@ckers.

I just glanced up at the kitchen clock. I'm too late.

Where would punk rock be without Neil Young ?

8pm, here in the Land Of 10,000 Lakes, so your good wishes have made it with time to spare (from my perspective).
Thanks, ib. I hope the particular failures of this particular Sunday are all other peoples!

Hours later, it is 8:02 here in the Golden State, so as with most things, time also is relative, just no relative of mine.

Since I don't wanna grow up, I'm a NOISE'R'US kid, there is always time to spare, just never change to spare.

I always liked the threat of tortured failures & betrayal, no need to be shy.

Here's one for you...
Mr. Soul by Neil from Trans (with a little help from NØ.

EnjoyS ib,
Nate

Matt: enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Nate: Thanks for this version of Mr. Soul. Great!

Neil still writes and performs with the three essential attributes any memorable musician has in spades - authenticity, talent and perspective, in that order.

Agreed. On all counts.

Thanks Ib. I had no use for Neil for many years. As far as I was concerned he was just some hippie. Remember that thread you and I had going about negative stupid angry little shitheads, like me? Anyhow, I'm a fan now. Do you really mellow with age or do you just build up so many toxins that you get tired easily?

I will say, these days, I might go back to listen to something I used to hate and realize that it's not that bad, I just don't like it. It really was a shock to realize that Neil was pretty good and I liked him.

I think it's probably a combination of both ; the toxicity of encroaching old age.

It's good to know you turned your contempt for Neil Young around, whatever the cause.

Neil Young is major. The iconoclastic way that he's gone about his career, while still remaining commercially viable and selling records for decade after decade, is pretty much unparalleled.

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents, since I got name-dropped in the post. :)

Especially in those early days. Woodstock era. You have to admire his refusal to buckle under commercial pressure.

I like the way you casually threw in "Decade" ("after decade") there.
