THE OLDER YOU GET, THE SWEETER THE TOOTH.

Serge Gainsbourg: born Paris, France; April 2, 1928 – March 2, 1991.

Those of you familiar with Serge Gainsbourg\’s prodigious output may well be wondering why the highlighted track is chosen from a much earlier album than the cover image to 1981\’s \”Mauvaises Nouvelles des Etoiles\”. I just love the pic. Simple as that.

On this one Serge manages to name-check Jimi Hendrix ; Elvis ; T. Rex ; Lou Reed ; the Rolling Stones – and what sounds shockingly like a fatherly nod to Mark E. Smith\’s then embroyonic The Fall. Surely not ? All this in addition to suspiciously scurrilous references to Coca-Cola and Lewis Carroll.

Marvellous.
