Actually, although they do resemble Roschach inkblots, Klein's canvases were made by inking one's body - usually a model's, i believe - and pressing directly onto it.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming the "Mickey Ears" are in reality breast markings ; similarly, those "arms" in figures #1, #3 and #5 (the "handstands") would be thigh markings.

ReplyDeleteAlthough I've heard of this art, I've never persued it far. Not even far enough to know the artist in question, so a sincere thanks for introducing me to Yves Klein.
That said, and regarding those bodies (?) in the artwork, plus my perennial 3rd-grader mentality... that fellow on the left seems to be the only one sporting 'junk'. Lucky dog.
But seriously... what are those small blips near the top of 1, 3, 5... shoulderblades?
The same thought occurred to me. I'm thinking they must be shoulderblades, but it's something of a teaser...
