That's pretty much how it was with me and The Gories. A three piece first operating out of Detroit back in '86. Two dapper dudes and a chick on drums. Then the record got set straight, see. For The Sake of the Song. The scales fell from my eyes; my ears got hip.
I could see from just a single glance in the bathroom mirror that close to two decades had slipped on by. The skinny kid got replaced. Some time between the champagne reception and the divorce. The cutting of all that fucking tiered cake. Too busy with the repayments and his girfriend counting calories.
What a shitty deal. The King of bum raps.
Still. I console myself that I still have all my teeth. Right there in the beer glass; warmed up in the window.

Some crazy raw shit which had me thinking of Hasil Adkins as much as the more obvious garage bands.
"Fast" indeed. Why, I popped into my local retail conglomerate just this afternoon and purchased a copy of the first long player release.
One last thing. I notice that - without exception - each DMCA complaint registered against me refers to an archived post containing a direct purchasing link to Amazon.

Yes, I definitely like The Gories and The Dirtbombs. Great Detroit bands. Sorry I haven't been commenting much here. I have yet to come to the attention of the DMCA or the trolls. Just lucky I guess. I dwell in well deserved obscurity.
The Dirtbombs are a fine group too. I think I heard them first on WFMU. I had no idea that Mike Collins had played in a previous outfit; never mind one so joyously raucous as this.
The neglect in commenting is as much mine as your's. I got 'otherwise engaged' there for a while. Stricken with an incapacitating lethargy which had me barely lifting a finger.
I got that article you emailed, but in truth our general election proved so debilitating I could not much face delving into it.
The DMCA troll thing is arbitrary and tedious. Good fortune - or ill - plays its part. Things seemed to have improved there for a while, but the witch hunt continues.
Well. I see from your last post that you have taken on a new job. Somehow I suspected you would refuse to go quietly. How's that going ?
Dirtbombs, Gories --- another Mick Collins band that you have to check out is Blacktop.
Also, seeing how you missed out on the Gories, there were a bunch of other great garage-type outfits from around that same time that you might've missed: Cheater Slicks, Oblivians, Mono Men, Night Kings..
Actually, almost anything that was on In The Red, Estrus, and Regal Select is worth looking into.
Also, regarding more current stuff, I think you should definitely check out Reigning Sound.
I agree with Brushback. I'd also suggest the sympathetic sounds of Montreal compilation and the various King Khan projects. Of the Montreal bands I am particularly fond of The Sexareenos and The Del Gators. I'm told that King Khan's sister was the Del Gator's vocalist.
Blacktop I only heard mention of as a result of punching in Mike Collins name. None of those groups you mention are on my rader, but since I know you - and Jon - to be individuals of taste, I will definitely look into them.
I have heard that In The Red can do no wrong.
Reigning Sound is definitely on my list too.
