An impulsive reaction, partially in response to the optimistic charge of watching Barack Obama's inauguration and the ushering out of the infinitely corrupt on tv, and - more directly - in reply to How Marvellous's very recent mention of Jim Jarmusch's excellent slow burning 1989 budget anthology.
Written by Herman "Junior" Parker and Sam Phillips. The b-side to the original 45 was a Charlie Feathers' composition.

Night on Earth was tremendously good too, as you probably remember - The sad tale in Helsinki has stuck with me as if it were last week; I'm surprised to see it was 1991. Cool - grinning now at all the humour in the film.
I'm unsure as to where this version came from originally; I remember I "double-tracked" again and re-encoded it using LAME, but I should have kept better tabs on its provenance.
"Night On Earth" was great; Tom Waits made an appearance in it as a bellhop in addition to doing the music for it, if I remember rightly. I have yet to see "Dead Man", but I did catch "Ghost Dog" a couple of times on TV.
"Mystery Train" remains my favourite.

Thanks for the comment, Marya. I should probably have posted this earlier to coincide with the Obama train setting off from Philadelphia on his historic train-ride into Washington... Better late than never.
If you haven't seen Dead Man, you're in for a real treat when you do. Jarmusch is one of my all-time favorite directors (starting with the intense Strange than Paradise, Down by Law w/Joe Strummer, et al). Ever see the TV show Fishing with John (Lurie)?

That would be something else. I don't think any of UK tv channels bought this one up, but I could be wrong. Sounds interesting, in much the same way I am fond of golf - as a game console simulation, sadly.
I will definitely catch up on "Dead Man" at some future date; I enjoyed the soundtrack.
Returning to the "golf" scenario, briefly, I have not as yet engaged in any swimming simulation, but the thought of being able to smoke while going for an Olympic gold definitely appeals to me.
Fishing with John is in fact a fishing show, but in a very surreal sense. There were six episodes, where John Lurie went fishing with guest fishermen. #1 John & Jim Jarmusch go shark fishing off Montauk,NY; #2 with Tom Waits for snapper in Jamaica; #3 with Matt Dillon in Costa Rica; #4 with Willem DaFoe ice ishing in Maine (John & Willem die of starvation after running out of crackers); & #s 5 & 6 where John is again alive with Dennis Hopper fishing for the legendary giant squid in Thailand. Here is the theme song.
