Dammit, where did I see this? I saw a picture of some guy hanging out of his car recreating Marat's pose. Maybe I dreamed it. It was in the context of car culture and I remember be struck by how exactly he resembles David's portrait of the great Marat. Marat is another one of those teen-age brain benders. I saw a community college production of Marat/Sade when I was a teenager. It sound like it would be dreadful, but it was brilliant including a young Black Marat. I became fascinated by the French Revolution and Sade. That along with an even earlier encounter with a bunch of Dadaist and Surrealist stuff left me happily unfit for service in daily life.

Never mind the typos... here's the bollocks.

Maybe that's where I saw it. At the unapologetic Mexican. That guy's artsy as shit. He would for sure know David's painting and it wouldn't be hard for him to make the connection to Mexican-American car culture.
