kankan blues

Quite unbefittingly, this acoustic piece comes not from South Africa but far to the north-west in Mali, on the border with Senegal.

Like Baaba Maal, the mood is lazy and fatalistic.

Wow! what is it about Mali and Senegal that they produce such superb music. Another on the list of places I want to go before I die

I was wondering about this as I wrote the post. My original intention was to put some music more inkeeping with traditional tribal music from the south, but Any Major Dude made a far better job of it than I ever could, born out of his own unique perspective.

Conversely, I think the Franco European influence on West African music has been assimilated into something very beautiful and unique in its own right.

Your site is amazing. I check in quite frequently, but never have the time to post. Keep it up!

This is very strange, and I only just noticed this; I keep waiting for Metallica to come in with "Nothing Else Matters"! Bizarre or what ?

I kind of love Metallica.

Against my better judgement, I kind of like them too; although I still think Lars Ulrich is a complete tosser, and hopelessly misguided when it comes to safeguarding his group's copyright.

Remember that statement from him regarding how "If I was a plumber, nobody would expect me to plumb their house for nothing" ?

If he were a plumber and tried to do a job on me after quoting his backstage rider, I'd fucking break his arms.
