I'm obvioulsy making up form being away from the 'puter most of the weekend. I've always liked this but never knew who it was by or what it was called
Have you seen 'Mean Streets, peewit ? The still with De Niro, Scorcese and Harvey Kietel is from this 1973 movie. Scorcese used "Rubber Biscuit" to perfectly illustrate a scene of woozy intoxication... Great stuff!

I'm with you there, Löst Jimmy; I was struggling to think of a suitably superlative epithet but it's just wasting time.
While some will compare Scorsese's documentary roots with Stanley Kubrick I always find the latter's movies tediously devoid of joy or even simple empathy. When I think back to the truly outstanding directors of the 70s I habitually come up with a small list of usual suspects: Scorsese; Peckinpah; Coppola; and Robert Altman.
Dennis Hopper was not halfway bad on the other side of the camera either.
