sugarcubism

"Everything is a miracle.
It is a miracle that one does not dissolve
in one's bath like a lump of sugar."

"Bad artists copy. Good artists steal."

"God is really only another artist.
He invented the giraffe, the elephant, and the cat.
He has no real style.
He just keeps on trying other things."

I love that giraffe quote. I love Picasso, everything about him.

Did you ever hear this story? It always makes me smile.

Hey, Davy; thanks for the link.

I'd missed this post - which is ironic given it features Miles - and that anecdote sums up everything which is great about Picasso; his riposte is as genuine and honest as it is seemingly flippant. Nice.

I had to restrain myself from shoehorning more quotes into this post; the intention was to keep it short and sweet and refrain from my usual tangential rhubarb and spiralling length.

I admire Picasso's post Cubist 'stuff' the most, but - as you infer - it is ultimately pointless in attempting to disentangle the man from his art.

Nice to hear from you, and congrats on the Guardian write-up.
