q. lazarus: goodbye horses

Prior to the release of this 45, Q. Lazarus worked as a taxi driver in New York City. A dangerous occupation for any woman, I would have thought.

"The lyrics and music were written by William Garvey. UK guitarist Mark Barrett (In 1996 he performed with the electro project "Inertia") joined the band later with Q as the single was re-leased [sic] in a long version to capitalize on the success of the movie "Silence Of The Lambs". "Goodbye Horses" first officially appeared on the soundtrack to Jonathan Demme's film "Married To The Mob" in 1988."

Forever synonymous with Ted Levine's deranged dance of the skin - he really ought to have been in the New York Dolls - with his cock not in his pocket but tucked neatly between his legs, this was the one which had everyone scratching their heads since it didn't feature on Howard Shore's score to the soundtrack released from "Silence Of The Lambs" in 1991.

I was a big fan of that blue lurex jacket Ted wore in "Police Story". I value his modeling skills almost as much as the great Brian Dennehy's, king of the 'true movie' genre. For a period there, back in the 80s and 90s, that pair ruled the cathode ray tube waves like sibling champion surfers.

My grandmother - my dad's mum - used to run a haberdashery when I was a very small child. She cut me a large section of lurex cloth in her shop once and I fashioned it into a cape, running up and down the street outside like a miniature Liberace. Of course, I fancied I looked more like Batman at the time. My memory of it is rather bare on detail; she died when I was about three or four years old.

From Wiki:

"Originally in the film, Clarice Starling discussed both sheep and horses during the ranch slaughter ordeal; the script was shortened to only include the lambs, but the song remained."

The track can now be enjoyed, apparently, on LRR 97.8 Liberty Rock Radio in the video game "Grand Theft Auto IV"; see my 'free' advertising link to Rockstar Games on the sidecar. Hey! Where's my free PlayStation 3 ?!! Jesus, the things we do out of love...

"Put the fucking lotion in the basket!"

More on the real Buffalo Bill here.
