see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. fuck you.

Here's one sibling i'd shoot on the bleachers right now.

"Sometimes there is a fourth monkey depicted with the three others; the last one, Shizaru, symbolizes the principle of "do no evil". He may be covering his abdomen or crotch, or just crossing his arms."

Very happy that this was reissued on CD. Apparently the cover art was a big influence on The Clash.

Definitely. Paul Simonon in particular, I think ; he was always the one in the group who knew his reggae. And the one with an Art School background. The Big Youth cover is a classic.

It's interesting that nobody has commented on the Mugabe angle ; either to agree or not. It amazes me that he was feted back in 1980 as the anti-apartheid saviour. Yesterday, when Nelson Mandella spoke out finally on the Zimbabwean
meltdown here in Britain, the queen announced Mugabe was to be stripped of his knighthood. Why they decided to award him one in the first instance is totally beyond comprehension. He's a seriously twisted little fucker.

During my short lived university career, I knew some former fighters for ZANU (Mugabe's group) and ZAPU. I couldn't understand the differences between them. Since then, Mugabe has proven to be a tragedy. The whole thing makes me feel sad; the knighthood, the Bob Marley concert when he took office. It all seemed so full of hope and now I don't really know what to say.

It is a tragedy. But so, I think, are the "reconciliation" policies in South Africa and - worse - in Rwanda. A lot of these same policies were fostered by liberals in the UN. Look at Kofi Annan's track record. When the Canadian peace keepers tried to reach out to Annan for authorisation to seize the highly visible build up of machetes in order to stave off the bloodshed to come, Annan was too busy attending banquets with Mandella to bother responding to the forseeable crisis. You have no authority to intercede, was more or less the official line. Prick.
