serge gainsbourg

THE OLDER YOU GET, THE SWEETER THE TOOTH.

Serge Gainsbourg: born Paris, France; April 2, 1928 – March 2, 1991.

Those of you familiar with Serge Gainsbourg's prodigious output may well be wondering why the highlighted track is chosen from a much earlier album than the cover image to 1981's "Mauvaises Nouvelles des Etoiles". I just love the pic. Simple as that.

On this one Serge manages to name-check Jimi Hendrix ; Elvis ; T. Rex ; Lou Reed ; the Rolling Stones - and what sounds shockingly like a fatherly nod to Mark E. Smith's then embroyonic The Fall. Surely not ? All this in addition to suspiciously scurrilous references to Coca-Cola and Lewis Carroll.

Marvellous.

I don't understand a word of this but I like it. Serge showing impressive stamina on this jam.

Yo, Emmett - my French is rather basic, too but it's never stood in the way of my appreciation for innate Gallic charm. Some of his best tracks are in the 7 minutes + ball park, and he adeptly milks every magic moment. Glad you dig it!
